Current Events and Critical Thinking
Following the news and understanding global issues take a great deal of critical thinking. Many times, current issues occurring evoke great emotion in us and create a desire in us to help the situation. But, we must always remember to not take for fact everything we see and hear. We need to think critically about what we see and hear and not let emotions determine our opinions, but rather evidence and fact.

Country Quiz website
Here is the link to the website we used in class to practice our countries for North America and the Caribbean. There regions will not match up with ours and they will include some areas that are not considered countries, but still a good place to practice!

2010 - 2011 School Year Has Begun!
Well, we are underway in 8th grade social studies. Classes started by looking into the Multiple Intelligences, or the different ways we learn. We took a survey to show us our strengths and weaknesses in learning.
We have also taken a look at the different levels of critical thinking. Taking after B. Bloom's taxonomy on thinking we created lighthouses with the different levels with the understanding that the higher up on the lighthouse the better you can see, just like at the higher levels of thinking the better you can understand. Ask to see your student's lighthouse and ask him/her to explain it.
Next we will be moving into Economics!
